Democrats and Republicans

I am so sick and tired of hear Democrats bash Republicans and vice versa just for being a Democrat or a Republlican. Can no one of either party carry on a useful debate over differences of opinion on the ISSUES? Can't each party member think indepentently, putting aside the party talking points and get down to a usefull dicussion of the issues in a CALM and RATIONAL manner.

I classify myself as a republican as my views on meaningful issues fall more right than left of the middle. But I also think that there are many democrat based ideas that have merit. Listening to liberal or conservative talk radio infuriates me. I recall the times when I was a child and the ideas of a kid were rejected outright because they were not a member of 'our' club, rather a rival 'club'. And the eventual capitulation of the ostracised so as to not feel left out.

Why the hell can't politicians and voters alike explain there views on important topics as THEY see them, not as the most influential (coercive?) members of their respective parties do. The weeks party talking points can be gleaned by just 15 minutes of Rush's show, or the headlines on the New York Times. Disgusting.

I am going to vote for Garfield.

Wonder what his views of IRAQ are?

Good grief.

Amen...I too lean right of center but you know I hate to admit...it may be time for a change...the issues just don't seem to be getting handled very well by the current admin...are they?

I can't understand how the Bush administration keeps stepping in steaming pile after steaming pile, and somehow are unable to emphasize effectively the good things that are happening, like reducing unemployment and improving economy. They can't get anyone's attention from the Iraq quagmire. And John Kerry is totally inept at capitilizing on Bush's weakness. Not to mention I havent heard an original fresh idea from either yet

It's refreshing to hear someone that considers himself a Republican say he's sick and tired of the extremes on both sides. I'm with you on that one all the way. I consider myself mostly conservative, but I get sick to the stomach when I hear conservatives go off emotionally on non-issues and things that do not effect our daily lives. The whole gay and evolution bashing bit is a mere distraction from the real issues - and that is that we are heading down the wrong course and a dangerous one of neglecting the up keep of foreign relations and our world. I am just as upset at some liberals that go on about how I shouldn't be materialistic (I like Lambos and Armani), and that I shouldn't eat red meat. The whole thing about how one ought to embrace New Age thinking is scary. The New Age end of liberalism is a national security threat in that it's all about 'peace love and harmony, now come dictate to me'. Ha! I all for a nation that's conservative enough to let folks like me be an entrepreneur and not be regulated all to heck, while we protect the rights and freedoms of women, brown poeple, gays and such. Less rules and more manners is the key here. I'm a non-breeder non-family values type, and don't want that to take over the Republican party. The GOP used to be about business, not personal stuff.
